Upcoming Worship Presenters

WORLD RELIGIONS WORSHIP SERIES

We will explore Paganism, Islam, Taoism, Baha’i, Judaism, Buddhism, and of course Unitarian Universalism. Our pulpit speakers come from all walks of life, helping us maximize our spiritual growth.

• February 19 — Dennis Fisher

GROWING INTO LIGHT WORSHIP SERIES BEGINS
Next Sunday, we will begin our next worship series, “Growing Into Light.” After the often painful and gloomy days of winter, we seek relief from dark and turbulent emotions. We anticipate increasing light, hope, and joy as we segue from the season of darkness to opalescent, to translucent, to luminous — harbingers of the spring and the opening of our hearts to new life, to new chances, to joy. In the five upcoming Sunday services our presenters address these issues.

• February 26 — Robert Hammond, “Darkness”
First Robert Rodriguez Hammond explores the theme of falling into darkness and climbing out of the pit into hope. Mary Oliver recently wrote: “Someone I love once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift.”

• March 5 — Via, Scott, Elizabeth, “Hope”
Via Baker, Scott Marshall and Elizabeth Schaefer speak of hope. In 2004, Carl Scoville noted: “…We must wait and hope, and if our waiting seems like madness to a world bent on suicide, nonetheless, that hope, that waiting….is all we need to keep going. Hope is not a luxury. Hope is not a virtue. Hope is essential for those who wish to live with strength, gratitude, and good cheer in a failing world.”

• March 12 — Bev Feldt, “Anticipation”
Bev Feldt brightens our hearts with the theme of Anticipation. According to Albert Camus, “... We need the sweet pain of anticipation to tell us we are really alive.”

• March 19 — Angela, “Growing Light”
Angela Salvaggione brings the musical theme of Growing Light. In The Legend of the Dragonfly, we are told that “The beauty of light shining through the iridescence of the dragonfly’s wings reminds us to let our own spirits be illuminated. By letting in the light, we welcome transformation and the realization of dreams into our lives.”

• March 26 — Rev. Darrick Jackson, “Joy”
Rev. Darrick Jackson will be bringing smiles of Joy. Babies? Sunshine? Puppies? Family? Nature? Spiritual community? Spring? What brings you Joy?

The entire O’Malley clan has gathered for Seamus's wake. Shocked as they are by the old boy’s sudden and unexpected departure, they’re determined to give him a send off as only an Irish family can. But there’s a mumbling within the clan about the inheritance and rumors are flying. So break out the Guinness, put on your best green, and join us for Mystery Dinner Playhouse’s hilarious production, “Wake Me When I’m Dead.”

GENDER EXPLORERS SUPPORT GROUP
Gender Explorers is a free, peer-run support group for transgender adults in and around Joliet. Our mission is to provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to share their personal experiences and explore questions of identity, transition, and/or coming out with people on similar paths.

We are inclusive of both female-to-male (FTM) spectrum and male-to-female (MTF) spectrum individuals, of genderqueer persons, of intersexed folks, and of those questioning their gender identity.

People of color and people with disabilities are encouraged to attend. The group meets monthly on 3rd Wednesdays from 6:30pm – 9:00pm at the Universalist Unitarian Church in Joliet. For more information, please contact Charlotte at genderexplore@gmail.com

We are an Official UU Welcoming Congregation – which means if you are looking for a church [as a Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, or Questioning individual or couple], we are where you can become a true and integral part of a supportive and loving community. You have found a place you can call home, a place to join hands with others for the better good.
